Octonauts GUP-I Transforming Polar Vehicle Review

Sound the Octo-Alert!

The Octonauts have wrapped up warm for their latest arctic adventures with a new playset addition to the Fisher-Price® toy range, as well as the introduction of new vehicles for more exciting deep sea missions.

GUP I Playset

DSC_2798_opt

“The brand new Gup-I playset is the perfect vehicle for polar adventures. The Gup-I is inspired by the durability and adaptability of the water bear. Part polar exploration station and part rugged vehicle, the Gup-I is equipped with everything the Octonauts need for creature rescues, despite the worst of weather conditions.

This Gup transforms for three different ways to play. In Water Bear Mode, the Gup’s legs can extend into “snow stilts” to give more stability for polar rescues so it can race and roll to the rescue. In Scout Mode, the Gup-I stands upright, giving the team the perfect view to scan and spot any creatures in trouble. In Command Center Mode, the Gup-I opens to reveal everything the Octonauts need for their rescues, including a snowball launcher and a small Snowprowler vehicle that is perfect for short scouting missions. This smart Gup recognises when it is in Water Bear Mode or Scout mode and will respond with different fun sounds and phrases. The Gup-I includes Kwazii in his snowsuit, a snowball launcher with 2 snowballs, a satellite dish play piece, a small Snowprowler vehicle and a Weddell seal with an icy “coat” that can be rescued”

When the box arrived, the boys thought Christmas had come early! They couldn’t wait to have a look inside and try it out. I was a little apprehensive as to how big the toy was, as the box is quite large and I was quickly thinking about where it would live in our small house, but I was soon smiling away as soon as I noticed that it was fairly small and compact. The boys were quickly exploring the GUP-I and it was soon introduced to the rest of their toys in an arctic rescue mission to save the Weddell Seal from a Killer Whale (love their imagination)

There are three ways to play with the GUP-I, as it easily transforms into 3 modes:

  • Command center mode

DSC_2809_optMake sure that all 6 legs are in the lowered position, this is done by just gently pushing the GUP-I down and the legs will click into place. Raise the roof and lower the ramp to release the snowprowler vehicle. There is an interchangeable station for the satellite dish or the snowball launcher. The dish or the launcher can be placed at certain points around the GUP-I or on the snowprowler, just push them in and they are secure.

DSC_2810_opt

The snowball launcher works by pressing in the red button, watch out as they fly out fast! The launcher comes with 3 snowballs, they are quite small and can get lost rather quickly.  Use the snowball launcher to defeat the enemy and rescue the Weddell seal (who is very cute and comes with a changeable ice coat)

  • Scout Mode

With the legs pushed in, the GUP-I Stands upright on its hind legs giving Kwazii a clearer view of what lies ahead and spot creatures who are in trouble

DSC_2849_opt

Kwazii has little holes on the soles of his feet, which help him to stand up on the GUP-I, at the command center and at the control seat in water bear mode and scout mode.

  • Water Bear Mode

The legs can extend into stilts, by sliding the little orange lever on the side of the body and can roll to the rescue.

DSC_2813_opt

With flashing lights and phases and sounds the GUP-I comes to life in your hands. Children can not only control what mode the GUP-I is but also by pulling on the antennae to hear phases like ‘Octonauts to your stations’ ‘Octonauts do you read me?’ and ‘Well done Octonauts, everyone is safe’

DSC_2807_opt

When transformed from one mode to another the GUP-I recognises the activation with sound and flashing lights

DSC_2851_opt

The GUP-I playset is easy to assemble and store away for future play. The extra items can be stored within the playset. It is durable and sturdy.

The playset encourages creative and imaginative play, it brings play to real life with sounds of music and characters from the cartoon. My boys enjoyed playing with the GUP-I (you know when the toy is good when there are arguments over who wants to play with it) they particularly enjoyed transforming it from one mode to the other and listening to all the familiar phases from the TV show.

Suitable from 3yrs + RRP £39.99

We was sent the GUP-I playset for the purpose of this review, thoughts, opinions and pictures are of my own.

Paper Planes Movie Review

paperplanes

Paper planes is a heart warming film about a young Australian boy who lives with his dad, who is struggling with life after the loss of his wife. Twelve year old Dylan is curious about flight, he spends his days watching an owl on his way to school. When a trainee teacher visits his school and tells them all about the world paper plane championships in Japan, Dylan soon discovers that he has a natural talent for creating paper planes. Throughout the adventure Dylan meets the junior Japanese champion, Kimi, and they develop a close bond, helping and challenging each other to build the next best paper plane.

Trailer:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keiMOd3dm-U

We was recently invited along to an event in London where we got to watch the film, before entering the cinema there were lots of fun things put on for the children to try like paper plane making master classes, paper plane racing and face-painting.

IMG_20151018_175353The whole room was decorated with paper plane banners that must have taken a long time making! There were people around helping and guiding the children into making planes. When we was called into the cinema to watch the screening, we was reminded to bring along our paper plane as well. Once seated in the cinema we all launched our plane down towards the front of the cinema, to see whose travelled the furthest.

As the lights went down, we settled into our seats ready to watch the film.

The boys enjoyed the film, I could hear lots of laughter from them and their eyes were glued to the big screen the whole time. It’s a great family feel good film to watch. Dylan’s determination to achieve his goal, even without the support that he desires from his Father is inspirational for children. It’s a heart warming film that will leave a smile on your face. Dylan is strong-willed and shows his Dad that even through bad times, every cloud has a silver lining.

Never give up, always strive to be the best at what you can be!

The film was released in the cinemas 23rd October 2015

We was invited along to  the screening of the film for the purpose of this review.

LEGO DC with Justice league: Attack of the Legion of Doom Review

The Justice League are back, including superheroes: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and many more of your favourites, and are preparing to take on an evil group spearheaded by villainous genius Lex Luthor, who is obsessed with world domination, in JUSTICE LEAGUE: ATTACK OF THE LEGION OF DOOM

lego doom

Lex Luthor is not happy – crime is on the run as the newly formed Justice League are working hard to keep the citizens of Metropolis safe. He creates his own team with a gang of skilled scoundrels, including the wrathful Black Manta and Sinestro, and so the Legion of Doom is born. The evil galactic tyrant enlists Lex Luthor, and his formidable Legion of Doom, to launch a daring plan to attack top-secret government site, Area 52, and take over the world!  If the plan succeeds, the Legion of Doom will have access to some of the word’s deadliest weaponry and advanced alien technology. Is success for the daring villain finally within reach, or is crime destined to suffer yet another humiliating defeat by the Justice League?

Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and the rest of the team are the fearless super-heroes that Metropolis needs. It’s up to the Justice League to defeat the world’s greatest super villains and save the planet – but have they finally met their match in the Legion of Doom?

My son absolutely loves LEGO, what child doesn’t? It encourages their creativity, imagination helps their fine motor skills through construction, designing and making what ever they fancy. It’s their world and their ideas. Not only does my so own an immense amount of small pieces of bricks in different colours and sizes,  he also has likes to watch the movies and play the games.

We was recently sent a copy of LEGO Justice League: Attack of the legend of doom to review. My son was on cloud nine when it arrived in the post, straight away it was placed into the machine to watch. It must have been replayed about 3 times on that first day! Here’s what he thought of it:

What is the movie about? It’s all about the Dc bad guys who have formed together to form the Legion of Doom. Their conquest is to rule the Earth by using Martian man hunter. The Justice League stop them because Martian man hunter finds out that the Legion of Doom are bad

Who is your favourite character? The Flash

Why? He is funny and makes me laugh. He is super fast and I would like to be just like him

Who is your least favourite character and why? Darkside because he is the ruler of all bad

Where is it set? e and in Space

What is your best scene? It would probably be when my favourite character Flash takes Green Lanterns coffee and changes it into a banana without him noticing, because he is really fast. It was funny when Green Lantern tried to drink the Banana.

If you could become one of the character, which one would it be and why? Definitely Flash as he is really fast and I like to run, so if I was fast like him then I would win all of the running races that I enter.

What is the message in this movie? Trusting your instincts and working together as a team

Would you recommend this movie to a friend? Yes I would. I think that my friends would really enjoy watching this movie because it is action packed and funny.

Overall the film is cute and the characters are humorous.

RRP: £5.99

Running Time: 74 mins

We was a sent a copy of the DVD to review, words and opinions are of my 8 year old son 🙂

Scooby Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery DVD Review

 Are you ready to rock?

Scooby Doo and co team up with the one and only iconic rock band Kiss.

scooby doo kiss

Scooby and the gang travel down to the newly opened ‘KISS World’ theme park in order to watch the famous glam rock band play at their highly anticipated Halloween concert. But when they arrive, it’s discovered that the park has been closed to the public! The evil Crimson Witch has plotted to summon the Destroyer from the alternate dimension of Kissteria. Mystery Inc. teams up with KISS in order to unite their forces in an epic rock ‘n’ roll battle, and save the park from its impending doom.

Will the gang be able to thwart the Crimson Witch’s dastardly plan, with the help of their favourite rock stars, and save the world?

We was sent a copy of the DVD to review. The boys adore Scooby Doo – Who Doesn’t? So when they saw the DVD they couldn’t wait to watch it, I on the other hand was looking forward to listening to some of the Kiss classic tracks.

Since watching it for the first last week, they have seen it about 10 times, they love to sing along to songs and are even asking me now to paint their faces just like Kiss.

Here’s what my 8-year-old thought of it –

What happens at the beginning of the movie? Scooby Doo and gang attend a Kiss Halloween concert but end up finding out that there is a mystery to solve.

Who is your favourite character in the movie? I would have to say the commercial officer because he makes me laugh.

Who is the commercial officer? He appears throughout the movie at times and it is like watching an advert. He tries to Kiss franchise at every opportunity

What is your favourite part of the movie? It would be when Starchild fights the Crimson Witch because it makes him look like a superhero.

What happens at the end of the movie? Kiss returns the rock of kissteria

What do you like about the movie? I like the songs and I’m looking forward to learning more of Kiss music. My favourite song is ‘Rock and roll all nite’ . My little brother really liked the part when Kiss perform the song ‘I was made for lovin you’

Get ready to rock, and don’t miss SCOOBY DOO! AND KISS: ROCK AND ROLL MYSTERY as it’s released on DVD on 12th Oct 2015.

Ghosthunters on icy trails trailer

ghost
Based on the bestselling novel by Cornelia Funke, this heartwarming tale of an unusual friendship, built out of the need to defeat an ancient evil, GHOSTHUNTERS.
20_045_gespensterjaeger_131020_1157_SD_000_060

When the often-fearful eleven-year-old Tom (Milo Parker – Mr Holmes) discovers a slimy green ghost in his cellar called Hugo, he is understandably afraid.  However, Tom soon realises that Hugo, who is an ASG (Averagely Spooky Ghost), is not only completely harmless but also desperately in need of his help. He has been banished from his haunted house by a dangerous AIG (Ancient Ice Ghost) who has moved in and is spreading an arctic cold over the entire town in the middle of summer!

To help get rid of this AIG, Tom and Hugo enlist the services of a professional Ghosthunter, Hetty Cuminseed, who has just lost her job at the CGI (the Central Ghosthunting Institute). Hetty doesn‘t like children or ghosts very much but Tom and Hugo convince her to teach them the basics of ghosthunting. The three become an unlikely team – only with friendship, courage and self–confidence can they overcome their adversary and save the town from the AIG.

Will the unconventional trio overcome their differences, and manage to defeat the evil Ancient Ice Ghost, and save the town from an icy end?

We was lucky to be invited along to a screening of the Ghosthunters, as we wasn’t sure of the certificate, we all went along. We had watched the trailer and thought that it was suitable for Oliver, who is 4, to watch.
Hugo is most definitely the star of the movie, my children loved his character. He is friendly, adorable and hilarious. Hugo just wants a friend and someone to help him in the quest of getting rid of the Ancient Ice Ghost from his home, so that he can move back in and get on with being an ASG. Tom is afraid of him at first and tries everything to get rid of him, even squirting him with orange juice (which ghost don’t like) but he soon realises that Hugo just wants a friend. When Tom goes in search of Hetty, he first asks her for help to get rid of Hugo, but the next time he goes to her house its to help Hugo.
Although Hetty doesn’t originally take a liking to Tom and Hugo, she soon realises that they have grown on her and that they are her only friends. As the days go by, the AIG becomes stronger and stronger and soon is taking over the city. It moves into the CGI where the three of them get together and work out what is needed to banish the AIG from Hugo’s home and the city forever.
My boys loved the film and can’t wait until it’s out on DVD so that they can buy it. The laughed the whole way through, and are now even searching for their very own Hugo.

Don’t miss the thrilling GHOSTHUNTERS at cinemas nationwide 2nd OCTOBER.
