Remote Control GUP-K Review

Do you have a little Octonaut fan in the house?

Take a look at this mean, green chomping machine

This Remote Control GUP-K is ideal for children who want to take their adventures that little bit further. The GUP-K is inspired by the alligator and it is the ultimate swamp utilty vehicle. With its big wide, powerful, sharp jaws that open and close as it races along, it is the perfect toy to take your child’s imagination to its limits.

dsc_5440-opt

Use the remote control for the swamp chomp action and cut a path through the fallen trees and swamp debris of the forest, allowing the crew to safety. The GUP-K also features a water cannon to put out any of those swamp fires that may be in your way and two detachable swamp speeders which are ideal for missions that need to be reached quickly across the water.

On the television show the Octonauts missions take place in water, the GUP-K is not intended for water play but it can be used outdoors. We took the GUP-K into the garden for an adventure. As the GUP was chomping its way through the fallen trees and overgrown swamp

It came across Kwazi who had come into danger with the fast growing weeds, it was time for Barnacles to steer the GUP-K through the foliage and save his friend

dsc_5506-opt

I love how my son’s imagination was ignited and come alive with the toy.

The GUP-K is hard-wearing and sustainable. The large wheels are durable and perfect for outdoor as well as indoor play. The wheels can manoeuvre over most terrain. What makes it special is the GUP can be used by its remote control, as the GUP-K glides along its big powerful jaws chomp up and down.

The remote control is an ideal size for little hands, with easy to use controls. The controller moves the GUP-K forward and backwards. It also has the ability to attach to other GUP controllers. On the reverse mode it also turns so the GUP doesn’t just go in one direction

The two swamp speeders can be removed from the GUP and used separately. They have little wheels so they can also be used on the floor to race across to any creatures that are exposed to harm

dsc_5511-opt

The small holes on Barnacles body mean that he can be attached to the swamp speeder and at the GUP controls

dsc_5510-opt

In case of a swamp fire, the water cannon can be used along with the water dart to save the swamp from any danger of quickly being engulfed by flames (or Mummy as she is passing by)

What’s included in the box

  • GUP-K
  • Barnacles Figure
  • Remote Control
  • Water Cannon and dart
  • 2 Swamp Speeders
  • Baby Aligator

Batteries are not included. It requires 4 AA for the vehicle and 2AAA for the remote control

The vehicle and all of the accessories are strong and durable, they managed to withstand quite a bashing from my boys.

My boys really enjoyed playing with the new Octonauts remote control GUP-K, they introduced it to the  transforming polar vehicle and played along together using their imagination and making up stories. The toy allowed them to explore the world of the Octonauts

The RC GUP-K is available from Argos priced at £39.99. An ideal gift for christmas or birthday.

Film still of 'Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants', 2013 France/Belgium animated film, co-written and directed by Helene Giraud and Thomas Szabo[11SEP2014 48HRs FILM REVIEW 2]

A fantastic tale taking place at ground level, MINUSCULE is the perfect half term treat for all the family. Based on the popular Cbeebies TV show, MINUSCULE blends stunning CGI animation with live action backdrops to really transport little ones to the undergrowth where they’ll embark on a huge adventure with this half term’s tiniest heroes.

To celebrate the release of creepy – crawly animated adventure Minuscule (in cinemas on 27th May 2016), we have been given Bug Hunting Safari Kit to seek out the tiny creatures and build them homes. Here’s how we got on.

The Interplay Bug Safari kit enables children to explore the fascinating world of bugs and mini-beasts in their own back garden. The safari kit contains tongs, magnifier pot, tweezers, lens and a brush.

DSC_4348-opt

My boys love to be outdoors and can spend every minute of the day outside running around and enjoying nature. They specifically like to hunt for bugs and believe that they may just find a new species. Their fingers and clothes are always being soaked in hot soapy water after spending hours digging up my garden searching for mini beasts.

They couldn’t wait to try out the Bug Safari and was soon using the field lens and bug tongs discovering fascinating creatures that lie underneath blocks of wood and that live within the grassy area of the back garden. It wasn’t long before they had a woodlice and a centipede to look at in the magnifying pot.

I spy a centipede
I spy a centipede
Look what i've got
Look what I’ve got

The tweezers are ideal for catching larger bugs, but be careful not to damage them and the brush is very useful in catching the smaller creatures as you can sweep them into the pot. The kit is a really fun way of finding and identifying bugs.

Along with the equipment in the kit there is also a book that contains a tick list of mini-beasts and bugs, did you knows and where to find specific creatures.

We found out that centipedes do not have 100 hundred legs as the name suggests but that they generally have between 30 and 70 legs. Using the magnifying pot we counted the legs on the centipede that we found and found that our one had 34. We didn’t keep them in the pot for too long, just long enough to investigate the creepy crawlies and then we let them back where we found them.

The boys now have their very own little bug expedition kit in the back garden, all set up at the top of their fort ready to bug hunt whenever they see a creature.

The children really enjoyed the bug hunting and are now really excited to see the film and I’m sure once they have watched the film it will inspire them to get out into the back garden and hunt some more.

We was sent the bug safari kit to review alongside the release of the film. No payment has been received.

Star mosaic wand

Star Glitter Wands kits comes in an assortment of 4 colours, Orange, Red, Blue and Purple. Like all of the kits from Yellow Moon, it comes with easy to follow picture instructions. In each kit you will find a wooden stick, mosaic self adhesive tiles, ribbon and a star template. This wasn’t a favourite of my boys but they reluctantly made them and soon found themselves enjoying the activity. The little glitter mosaic tiles are fiddly at first, as they are quite small and not so easy to peel off and place onto the star but once you get the hand of it, it gets easier. This activity took the longest to do and really helped with the boys concentration. Even though it was tricky they was determined to finish the wand. We have placed our wand on to the tree.

Reindeer gift bags

The Reindeer Gift Bags are the most adorable way to give a present to someone. The bag size is 11cm x 12cm so only little gifts can be added into them or they can be used as a party bag for the children. Each pack comes with 2 assorted colours and in each kit you will find everything to make the gift bag with, paper bag, pre cut self adhesive foam pieces and googly eyes. They are easy and fun to make. As with most kits from Baker Ross, they come with self adhesive stickers but some you need to use your own glue. With the gift bags you need to glue down the antlers and the ears, we used a glue stick and it did the job. The boy really enjoyed this craft, they love that they have their own gift bag to store their little pieces of art work in.

Penguin sewing decoration kit

A favourite of my boys was the Penguin Sewing Decoration Kits. Penguins are my sons favourite mammal, he adores them, so he couldn’t wait to sew together the kit and create his own little cute penguin. Comes in 3 assorted colours – Red, Blue & Green. Each kit includes pre-cut felt shapes, self-adhesive felt pieces, yarn, stuffing, ribbon & plastic needle. This activity isn’t just cute and adorable to loom at but it also teaches children sewing skills, which is really good for there fine motor skills. The penguins look so cute hanging on the tree and would even make an adorable present for the young ones to give to their teachers.

Tumbling snowmen

The Tumbling Snowmen are cool little guys that have sticky hands, feet and bellies. Stick them on glass, a wall or a cupboard and watch them tumble-down to the floor. These little cool dudes are so much fun, but don’t take your eyes off of them as they can go really fast! Place on shiny surfaces and have races, see whose snowman is the fastest! Perfect as a stocking filler or even to add to the children’s advent .

The Christmas foam glasses kit comes with four designs – penguin, snowman, reindeer and santa. Each kit includes foam glasses, self-adhesive foam pieces and wiggle-eyes. They are easy to make and the instructions are easy to follow. The foam pieces are easy to peel and as they are pre cut into the shapes they are easy to place on the glasses. These kits take minutes to do, but the children love doing them. They are fun and the children adore showing off what they have created after.

Octonauts GUP-I Transforming Polar Vehicle Review

Sound the Octo-Alert!

The Octonauts have wrapped up warm for their latest arctic adventures with a new playset addition to the Fisher-Price® toy range, as well as the introduction of new vehicles for more exciting deep sea missions.

GUP I Playset

DSC_2798_opt

“The brand new Gup-I playset is the perfect vehicle for polar adventures. The Gup-I is inspired by the durability and adaptability of the water bear. Part polar exploration station and part rugged vehicle, the Gup-I is equipped with everything the Octonauts need for creature rescues, despite the worst of weather conditions.

This Gup transforms for three different ways to play. In Water Bear Mode, the Gup’s legs can extend into “snow stilts” to give more stability for polar rescues so it can race and roll to the rescue. In Scout Mode, the Gup-I stands upright, giving the team the perfect view to scan and spot any creatures in trouble. In Command Center Mode, the Gup-I opens to reveal everything the Octonauts need for their rescues, including a snowball launcher and a small Snowprowler vehicle that is perfect for short scouting missions. This smart Gup recognises when it is in Water Bear Mode or Scout mode and will respond with different fun sounds and phrases. The Gup-I includes Kwazii in his snowsuit, a snowball launcher with 2 snowballs, a satellite dish play piece, a small Snowprowler vehicle and a Weddell seal with an icy “coat” that can be rescued”

When the box arrived, the boys thought Christmas had come early! They couldn’t wait to have a look inside and try it out. I was a little apprehensive as to how big the toy was, as the box is quite large and I was quickly thinking about where it would live in our small house, but I was soon smiling away as soon as I noticed that it was fairly small and compact. The boys were quickly exploring the GUP-I and it was soon introduced to the rest of their toys in an arctic rescue mission to save the Weddell Seal from a Killer Whale (love their imagination)

There are three ways to play with the GUP-I, as it easily transforms into 3 modes:

  • Command center mode

DSC_2809_optMake sure that all 6 legs are in the lowered position, this is done by just gently pushing the GUP-I down and the legs will click into place. Raise the roof and lower the ramp to release the snowprowler vehicle. There is an interchangeable station for the satellite dish or the snowball launcher. The dish or the launcher can be placed at certain points around the GUP-I or on the snowprowler, just push them in and they are secure.

DSC_2810_opt

The snowball launcher works by pressing in the red button, watch out as they fly out fast! The launcher comes with 3 snowballs, they are quite small and can get lost rather quickly.  Use the snowball launcher to defeat the enemy and rescue the Weddell seal (who is very cute and comes with a changeable ice coat)

  • Scout Mode

With the legs pushed in, the GUP-I Stands upright on its hind legs giving Kwazii a clearer view of what lies ahead and spot creatures who are in trouble

DSC_2849_opt

Kwazii has little holes on the soles of his feet, which help him to stand up on the GUP-I, at the command center and at the control seat in water bear mode and scout mode.

DSC_2808_opt

  • Water Bear Mode

The legs can extend into stilts, by sliding the little orange lever on the side of the body and can roll to the rescue.

DSC_2813_opt

With flashing lights and phases and sounds the GUP-I comes to life in your hands. Children can not only control what mode the GUP-I is but also by pulling on the antennae to hear phases like ‘Octonauts to your stations’ ‘Octonauts do you read me?’ and ‘Well done Octonauts, everyone is safe’

DSC_2807_opt

When transformed from one mode to another the GUP-I recognises the activation with sound and flashing lights

DSC_2851_opt

The GUP-I playset is easy to assemble and store away for future play. The extra items can be stored within the playset. It is durable and sturdy.

The playset encourages creative and imaginative play, it brings play to real life with sounds of music and characters from the cartoon. My boys enjoyed playing with the GUP-I (you know when the toy is good when there are arguments over who wants to play with it) they particularly enjoyed transforming it from one mode to the other and listening to all the familiar phases from the TV show.

Suitable from 3yrs + RRP £39.99

We was sent the GUP-I playset for the purpose of this review, thoughts, opinions and pictures are of my own.

Paper Planes Movie Review

paperplanes

Paper planes is a heart warming film about a young Australian boy who lives with his dad, who is struggling with life after the loss of his wife. Twelve year old Dylan is curious about flight, he spends his days watching an owl on his way to school. When a trainee teacher visits his school and tells them all about the world paper plane championships in Japan, Dylan soon discovers that he has a natural talent for creating paper planes. Throughout the adventure Dylan meets the junior Japanese champion, Kimi, and they develop a close bond, helping and challenging each other to build the next best paper plane.

Trailer:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keiMOd3dm-U

We was recently invited along to an event in London where we got to watch the film, before entering the cinema there were lots of fun things put on for the children to try like paper plane making master classes, paper plane racing and face-painting.

IMG_20151018_175353The whole room was decorated with paper plane banners that must have taken a long time making! There were people around helping and guiding the children into making planes. When we was called into the cinema to watch the screening, we was reminded to bring along our paper plane as well. Once seated in the cinema we all launched our plane down towards the front of the cinema, to see whose travelled the furthest.

As the lights went down, we settled into our seats ready to watch the film.

The boys enjoyed the film, I could hear lots of laughter from them and their eyes were glued to the big screen the whole time. It’s a great family feel good film to watch. Dylan’s determination to achieve his goal, even without the support that he desires from his Father is inspirational for children. It’s a heart warming film that will leave a smile on your face. Dylan is strong-willed and shows his Dad that even through bad times, every cloud has a silver lining.

Never give up, always strive to be the best at what you can be!

The film was released in the cinemas 23rd October 2015

We was invited along to  the screening of the film for the purpose of this review.
