CSMA Challenge: Boom Pop Balloon #NewThings

Have you tried anything new this week?

It’s week two of four into the CSMA Newthings bloggers challenge and this week was as a family to try a new game. This week has been extremely busy for us, not only did the two eldest boys return to school but i also returned to work after having 5 weeks off over the summer. The eldest boy started his new adventures into secondary school, plus we celebrated his 12th birthday today, so we have all been kept rather busy… although not too busy to enjoy playing a new game together.

As it was the eldest birthday there was quite a few balloons lying around the livingroom floor and as i was sitting their thinking about what game we could play, i quickly remembered reading about a party game involving balloons.

BOOM POP BALLOON

You will need a selection of different coloured balloons, inside one place a small gold star. Inflate, tie and leave to one side

Next gather the children in front of you and tell them that you are going to throw the balloons up in the air – one balloon per child

As you throw the balloons in the air give them an instruction to follow that they must do with one balloon

  • Catch the balloon with your right/left hand
  • DSC_0138
  • Catch the balloon with your feet

DSC_0135

  • Catch the balloon with one foot and one hand
  • Bounce the balloon with your head 5 times then sit down
  • Try to keep the balloon off of the floor by bouncing it high with your hands/feet/nose/elbow as many times as possible

If you have quite a few children you could play a kind of musical chairs game but instead of taking a chair away each time take a balloon away and the child left without holding a balloon has to sit out.

My boys are very competitive and was funny to see how the littlest was eager to win by pushing his older brother aside and standing in front of him so that he could reach his balloon first.

Remember the balloon with the golden star inside….Well! Now this is the fun part. Gather the children together and ask them to pop all of the balloons because inside one of them there is a little star and whoever finds that star will be the lucky child who will receive a goody.

Watch out for the POP!

After a few minutes of bottom bouncing, one of the boys found the golden star but as I am a nice mummy I let both of the boys have a sweetie.

We had giggles, uncontrollable laughter, some pushing and shoving but most of all lots of fun. My boys love to play together especially when it’s a new exciting game to play. Balloon Pop Boom is a fun but active game and can keep them busy for hours. Give a child a balloon and watch in amazement on how long they will run around the room bouncing it around.

If you have done anything that has involved trying something new this week, why not link up below. I would love to read them ūüôā

If you need any inspiration, CSMA Club has plenty of ideas for free attractions and places to visit around the country on the Boundless things to do section of its Smart Spending hub. Don’t forget to use the #newthings hashtag whenever you’re sharing.

This weekend will see me leaving the house early in the morning at about 7:30 all on my own! Yes you heard right i have been given a mummy release card (i get one a year) and I will heading off in to London for the famous UK’s biggest social media conference and blogger event, where lifestyle bloggers and social influencers gather together to socialise, meet new brands, improve our skills and network Oh and did i forget to say their is tea and cake available. Blogger Photo Competition with Zulily

Zulily is a fabulous on line store and also available as an app on your smart phone that offer daily sales events which last for 72 hours to their members. They carry the best brands for mums, children and babies at low prices sometimes offering up to 90% off of the retail price! Each day is different and every morning members receive an email or update for what is up for sale on that day, membership cost nothing!

Zulily are looking for bloggers who want to share their best tips for taking photos of our little ones, in addition to their monthly photograph competition on Intagram where you post a picture of your child with their biggest grin tagging the following

  • #zulilyUKJanuaryCutiesCompetition
  • @zulilyUK
  • and either: #zulilynewbie¬†(if you‚Äôre new to zulily) or #zulilian¬†(if you‚Äôve already joined zulily)

You also need to be following zulilyUK on Instagram too! Zulily are also inviting bloggers along to not only share their three top tips but also a favourite photograph that has been taken by themselves.

My top tips:

  • Try to take shots with good natural lighting. Some of my best photos have been taken in the park and sometimes using a tree’s branches or an apparatus can be used to frame your child bringing the focus of the picture onto them.
  • Remove any objects around what you are on focusing on for example, pieces of paper on the table behind your child¬†or too many toys scattered on the floor, anything that could be a distraction in the photo or for your children. Keep your child at eye level and central.
  • Be quick especially with toddlers, It’s not often that my youngest stays still long enough to capture the moment so i¬†always keep a camera or phone within reach. A lot¬†of my photos are taken on my Iphone¬†which can be edited really well in your albums or through an app like Instagram.

I have many photos that I could say are my favourite so it was hard to pick out just one but after hours of looking through my albums i think i may have found it! It is of Joseph and was taken in the park on a climbing frame.

I like all the lines around Joseph that the planks of wood are causing, they all seam to focus and lead to my son.

If your a blogger and want to take part in Zulilys Photo competition why not compose a post yourself, the winner will be selected by their lead photographer and you could win £100 in Zulily vouchers and two runners up will also win £25 vouchers

The competition closes on Thursday 31st of January. Zulily will be shortlisting on Friday 1st of February and if you will contact the winners via twitter or your email contact on your blog. The winner will be announced on the Zulily blog no later than Tuesday 5th February.

Confusion! What Am I Doing?

I had serious second thoughts this morning about whether or not i should carry on with my blog or not.

This weekend saw me leaving all three of the boys for the first time with their Daddy while i jumped onto a train and made my way to Britmums¬†Live, the biggest blogging event of the year. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had never attended one before, so even though i¬†was nervous i was really looking forward to learning how I could take my blog to the next level, what these spiders are that are hiding in my blog and meeting lots of other bloggers. I couldn’t attend the first day on friday so saturday was my first day, I met up with fellow bloggers Lovefrommummy, Mummyadventure and thelifeandtimesoftheworkingmum¬†at the station in the morning and off we travelled together to the event. Nervous wasn’t the word, I was very worried that i¬†wouldn’t be accepted as a blogger as I am not as big as most of the others who was in attendance, I had already been sick that morning with the nerves and i¬†was afraid that I wouldn’t fit in and that no one would talk to me so having Vicky, Laura and Bex¬†by myside¬†made it all feel slightly better. I am not a very confident person and although i¬†might make jokes, I am secretly thinking to myself have i¬†just said the right thing. I try to be funny to make up for the fact that I have a low esteem. Walking into the hub (main area) I felt like the new girl at school, the girl who no-one knew, i¬†felt people looking at me trying to work out who i¬†was. I found myself looking round desperately trying to catch the eye of others who i¬†could talk to and hopefully strike up a new friendship with. On the odd occasion when i¬†did stand within a group conversation, i¬†just stood on the outside listening too scared to step into the conversation incase i¬†just got ignored. When i¬†did feel confident enough to introduce myself as mumofthreeboys¬†I just got the ‘oh, yeah, Hmmmm’ obviously no one had heard of my small blog which made me feel even smaller than what i¬†was! Not their fault¬†at all, It’s all¬†me! too scared to make myself known. Attending Britmums¬†for me was all about the socializing, I wanted to put faces to blogs and voices to tweets unfortunately due to me being who I am and too frightened to approach others, who seemed way above me, I only actually talked to a few people. I wanted to learn more about SEO and gain some more knowledge of the blogging world, I attended the workshop: Beginning blogging, SEO tips and legal essentials which was very insightful, I took lots of notes and hopefully be putting what i¬†learnt to the test over the next few weeks in my blog posts. I also sat in on the workshop about Pinterest as it was something that I am signed up to but would love to learn more about and the lovely Alice from Anessexwife was talking too so that kind of swayed it for me.

I would like to say that so much work and hardship went into planning such a huge event and i¬†heard some inspiring, upsetting and brilliant words from some magnificent bloggers in the bloggers keynote session so why did i¬†this morning wake up and feel not worthy to be at such event amongst some amazing powerful people, I don’t know! It’s something I can’t answer, however hard i¬†look at it or think why am i¬†feeling so low about my blog i¬†come up with zilch, nada nothing! I’m not a writer nor have i¬†ever claimed to be good at english, I don’t have many interesting things to say and i¬†don’t really understand computers so now im feeling that maybe i¬†shouldn’t blog at all. I know i¬†will never have a huge following but we all like to feel liked every now and then, need people or something to make us feel special and that is what i¬†was using my blog for but today i¬†don’t¬†feel special at all! So what am i¬†going to do? First I turned to twitter and in my upset state i¬†did what i¬†would never normally do and showed a feeling, I tweeted out that i¬†wasn’t sure what i¬†was doing with my blog and didn’t expect any response at all but i was amazed at how many people replied with words of advice and pointed me back to my about me¬†page where i¬†stated that i¬†started my blog for my children and as a diary of their lives, something for us all to look at and remember our days together. I somehow at some point lost why I started blogging in the first place, I felt like I strayed away from my comfort zone with my boys and got lost in a forest where I left the path to take a shortcut. I have spent all day with my boys and i¬†spoke to them about the blog and they want me to carry on but I’m¬†not going to change nor am i¬†going to try to¬†get more followers and try to drive more traffic to my blog because why would i¬†want to do that when after all, mumofthreeboys is for me and me family!

Thank you to everyone who send me some words of wisdom today on twitter and thank you to my mummy for listening to me and guiding me out of the dark to see the light.
