Spooktacular Crafts for Halloween with Viking-Direct

#AD

As my boys are growing up it takes a little bit more encouragement for them to get crafty. I really enjoy making things and try my best to encourage the boys to do so too. They have a set of art drawers in their bedroom that is full of arts and crafts, the boys would often rummage through them and create little masterpieces. And when they do get crafty they do produce some lovely art pieces, my youngest has just finished an art project (set by school) to create a Halloween scene in a box – he loved doing it, but just needs that extra little encouragement to do so.

Viking – an online stationary and office supplies company – invited us to take part in a Halloween Craft Campaign, which I thought would be a lovely idea for the boys to get involved in some spooky arts and crafts.

In the box

We were sent a box of goodies to use our imaginations with and creative to produce some spooky crafts and to share with you all what we come up with.

Our kit included:

  • A selection of coloured paper and card
  • A pack of felt tip pens
  • A set of Halloween based stencils
  • A gold and silver metallic craft pen
  • A ball of string
  • Glitter
  • A pumpkin carving kit
  • Elastic string for masks

What we created

I love getting crafty with the boys, they have great imaginations and i just enjoy spending the time together sitting at the table. It is far better than watching them playing games on their phones or tablets

Frankenstein’s Monster Mask

We cheated paper, card, felts, metallic pens, scissors, glue and the elastic to create a Frankenstein’s Monster mask for my son to wear on Halloween. He really enjoyed this craft and we are pretty smug about how it turned out. We used black card for the base and stuck the green paper on top, my son then went on to add in the details with the felts.

Halloween Card

Happy ‘Hammers’ Halloween

As my son plays football and trains once a week at the WestHam Development centre, he really wanted to make a Halloween Card to give to them. He used the coloured paper, the stencil and felts to create a spooky picture. The broom and the sword are creating the famous ‘Hammers’

String cobweb

Next up we made a cobweb using the ball of string and 3 twigs that we had collected from outdoors.

Cobweb made from string and twigs
String cobweb

Here is how we made it:

  • Secure three, same size, twigs together with some of the string in the middle to make a star like shape.
  • With the rest of the string start to wind the string around the twigs, moving from one to another.
  • keep on going around the twigs, wounding the string around and around.
  • We wrapped the string around the twigs once before moving on the next twigs as this helps to secure the string in place.
  • When you get to the end of the twigs, tie a knot in the string.

Pretty cool eh! And very effective when you leave them hanging around the trees in your garden.

We also created a tiny spider from the black card and placed it in the cobweb

Pumpkin sweet treat holder

Halloween isn’t just about dressing up into the scariest outfit you can find but, for children, it is also about knocking on the neighbours doors ‘trick or treating’. These cute little Pumpkin sweet favours are not only sweets but also double up as a little gift that you can give to the children.

Pumpkin favours

You will need some orange tissue paper, string and green paper.

  • Cut out a circle from the tissue paper – big enough to hold some sweets in
  • Place the sweets in the middle and then bring the ends up into the middle
  • Secure the middle with some of the string
  • Place some green paper over string to create a green stem
  • Draw on a scary face or leave plain
  • They are now ready to give out to children as gifts

Pumpkin Carving

The last part of our Hallowe’en crafts was the best bit, the bit where we got messy. Pumpkin carving is always the best part, in my opinion, of celebrating Hallowe’en.

We used the pumpkin carving kit that was provided to us in the box. Once we had decided on what design we was going to put onto our pumpkin we was ready to get going.

First we cut off the top of the pumpkin and then using the scoop we scooped out of the middle of the pumpkin. Once it was empty of all of the flesh and the seeds we drew on our design and then following the lines we cut it out.

The boys like to do something a little different with their pumpkins and this year they wanted a Harry Potter Pumpkin. What do you think?

We were enjoyed getting crafty with our little box of stationary that Viking gifted to us

Happy Hallowe'en

Mothers Day Crafts with Yellow Moon

Mother’s Day is nearly on top of us and if you are thinking about what crafts the children can do at home, take a look at the following 5 products that Yellow Moon have to offer.

There is nothing better than receiving a home-made gift from my boys on Mothers Day. Mostly they are cards that they have made at school or something that they have put together in the corner of their bedroom on the said day.

Yellow Moon is an online arts and crafts store that supplies children’s craft sets and party bag fillers. They have a wide range of arts and crafts for every occasion all you have to do is add a little imagination to create a master piece.

Mothers Day Sand and Glitter Art Picture Sheets £2.40 Pack of 6

yellow glitter The pack comes with 6 assorted designs, each sheet measures 19 x 12cm. Everything is a sticker, peel away what you would like to add some glitter or colourful sand to and design away. Why not mix it up a bit by adding in some more colour with some felt tip pens, colour in what you haven’t added some glitter to. These cute little cards will add sparkle to any Mummy’s morning.

Mother’s Day Rosette Badge £3.49 Pack of 6

yellow rosette

Show your Mum that she is a star and your number 1 by presenting her with a badge that she could proudly wear all day, knowing that her precious little ones had made it with love for her. There are 3 assorted designs in the kit, each kit contains a rosette template, sequins, self adhesive foam pieces and a badge pin. The instruction sheet, as always, is easy to follow with pictures showing each step which makes it clear for young children to do. My boys really enjoyed this activity and have stored away their creations ready to give to me on Mother’s day morning.

Wooden Jewellery Hands £2.40 Pack of 2

yellow hand

Decorate these wooden hand shapes with Deco pens, glitter and sequins and use to display your jewellery on. Each kit comes with the wooden hand shape and a wooden base that just slots into each other, no glue is needed. My son chose to paint the hand  red with acrylic paint, then once dried he decorated it with buttons and glitter glue. It looks good on my bedside cabinet and I would be very happy to receive this as a gift. My rings are very small so they don’t fit all the way down, but they still fit on. You can hang your necklaces and bracelets on it too. These are ideal gifts for any female out there not just your Mum.

Butterfly Cushion Sewing Kits  £4.50 pack of 2

yellow butterfly

The kit comes in 2 assorted butterfly designs, cushion size 20cm wide. Each kit contains pre punched felt templates, self adhesive felt shapes, yarn, plastic needle, stuffing and stuffing. I absolutely adore these sewing kits for children, it is such a fun way to introduce sewing to them. They are perfect for their fine motor skills and also their concentration. My boys struggled a little as the yarn was very long and they kept getting all caught up in it and tangling it all up. Mummy did have to help them out a little. I love the final product and the butterflies are now sitting proudly on the boys bed ready for them to cuddle into at night-time.

Flower Craft Box £2.99 pack of 4

yellow box

These little craft boxes are a favourite of my own. I had the chance to get out my decopatch paper and  glue and decorate away. Each flower box measures 7cm diameter, so ideal for those little trinkets, pins, pennies or craft materials. I could just see it being a fabulous way to present a little gift in. They can be decorated with pens, paints and sequins.  I found this paper in a craft shop recently and have been waiting for something to decorate with it. I adore my little box and I am going to store my safety pins in at work.

If you like the loom of someof these crafts why not head on over to the website to see what else they have to offer. Fabulous prices and some great crafts sets.

I was supplied with these products for the purpose of this review. Mumofthreemusketeers are a part of yellowmoon bloggers.

The template foam sheet is a little small for bigger hands, I have small hands and my hand just about fit on.

Halloween Foam Stickers – Pack of 100 – £2.99

DSC_2332-opt

How about making a spellbinding picture from these brightly coloured foam self adhesive stickers. The pack contains 100 stickers with 50 assorted designs.

The boys decided to stick them onto a piece of paper, leaving a pile of white backing paper from the stickers all over the floor. Still, it kept them busy for 15 minutes and I had no arguments about who got what stickers as there were more than on of each design.

Pesty Pirate Pop-Up Pals – Pack of 6 – £2.75

DSC_2311-opt

Heave ho me hearties! These Pesty Pirates have foam printed faces and are sitting on a string spring. Once you press them down, you can watch them fly as they pop up into the air. They come in 3 assorted designs – blue, black and red, character size appox. 80mm. Suitable for 3+

DSC_2313 (1)-opt

The boys had lots of fun in the living room, popping the pirates up into the air. They can be a little temperamental and a little stubborn at times and not pop up but a little patience and they soon decide to go for a fly. Pesty pirates make cute little halloween or party gifts. We had competitions on whose could pop up the highest, there were lots of giggles and maybe the odd tantrum when their pirate didn’t pop lol.

Why not take a wander on over to Yellow Moon and see what other crafts they have to offer.

Easter/Spring crafts with Yellow Moon

Easter time isn’t quite right without participating in some crafting at home with the children, especially when the rain is pelting down against the window panes. If you’re looking for the alternate gift to give at easter rather than chocolate why not check out the Easter crafts on off at Yellow Moon

Yellow moon is the ideal shop for all of your crafting essentials, wether it be kits to make up, paints, clay, sewing kits and much more, Yellow moon stocks them all.

We was recently sent a box of arts and crafts goodies for Easter to enjoy, In our box we received:

DSC_1230_opt

  • Foam birdhouse kits (pack of 2)    £3.75
  • Easter mosiac wands (pack of 4)    £3.95
  • Wooden bird feeder kits (pack of 3)    £3.99
  • Easter basket ribbon lacing cards (pack of 6)    £1.49 was 2.95
  • Easter bunny sewing decoration kits (pack of 3)     £3.99
  • Spring flower foam stickers (pack of 120)     £2.99
  • Coloured wooden buttons (pack of 100)     £2.99

My boys are always excited when we receive a Yellow Moon box, they instantly know what the parcel contains as it has the instinctive yellow moon tape all around it which is yellow and blue. They can not wait to see what is inside, my youngest boy is a keen crafter. The kits are perfect for him as they teach him how to follow instructions, with step by step pictures.

  • With the buttons we made a couple to cards to give out to members of the family. Buttons are ideal for crafting with and can be used on many different projects. The buttons come in an assortment of bright colours, they measure 15mm and made from real wood.

  •  The Easter Bunny sewing decoration kits are a perfect introduction to sewing, the kit comes with 3 pre-punched felt pieces in blue, purple and pink. The kit also contains self-adhesive felt shapes, wool, wiggle eyes, plastic sewing needle and stuffing. DSC_1304_opt

We began with tying on the ribbon and then once the needle was threaded with the wool we was ready to begin to sew. This activity really helped my boys with their concentration, we had a few mishaps where the odd hole was missed out but it still looked good even if the boys added 5 eyes!

  •  A favourite of my youngest was the Easter Mosaic Wands, he instantly fell in love with the finished product. Each kit comes with four different characters; chick, lamb, egg and a bunny.

DSC_1615_opt
Includes: foam characters, wooden wand, self-adhesive foam tiles, ribbons

My youngest is 3 years old and he began to take off the backing from the mosaic tiles but got himself into a bit of trouble as they kept getting stuck together. The tiles were quite small so it was little fiddly but once the backing was off, placing them onto the foam character was easy as it was marked on as to where to stick them.

DSC_1618_opt

A really good thing about this kit and most other kits from Baker ross -Yellow Moon is that the instructions are easy to follow for the children. With no words and only pictures to follow my youngest was able to tell me what was happening next.

DSC_1617_opt

Once all the tiles were in place, you add the wand and some colourful wanderful magic by adding the ribbon, this makes waving the wand oh so much more fun!

DSC_1619_opt

  • The foam birdhouse kits were fun and easy to make, again with simple picture instructions to follow. Each kit contains thick foam templates and self adhesive foam shapes and comes in two different colours. Although this kit is recommended for 5+ my youngest really enjoyed doing it (under adult supervision) The templates join together with a push in connection and once completed make lovely little easter gifts for friends or family members.

PicMonkey Collage

  •  We had fun with the wooden birdfeeders, once made the youngest gave them away as gifts to his childminder. Again they were easy to make with simple instructions to follow. The kit comes with pre-cut wooden pieces and cord to hang them with. Each piece slots in together and there is no need for glue, although we used a little in some places to secure it a little more. The birdfeeders were quick to make but it was the decorating that was the fun part.

PhotoGrid_1427950169585

We made two out of the 3 up, one my son decorated with the spring flower foam stickers and the other he painted to look like a house.

My children have really enjoyed making the Yellow Moon craft kits. It was lovely to see them making something that were proud of.

Brought to you as part of being a yellow moon blogger. This review contains my own pictures and words, no payment has been received apart from the craft kits.
