Craft Project – No Sew Dicky Bow Tie

My younger boys love to dorn a dicky bow tie when they are getting dressed up. The middle boy, who is 9 years old has so many different bow ties in all sorts of designs and colours. He is always wearing one.

They are cheaper enough to buy but I thought I would attempt to make one with some off cut material that I recently bought. In the package was a certain piece of fabric that made me think straight away that it would make a lovely bow tie. As soon as I saw the material I knew what I was going to do with it.

This Dicky Bow is ideal to make if you’re not that comfortable using a needle and thread. It also takes no time at all, so quick to knock up for a last minute outfit choice.

To make a Dicky Bow Tie You will need:

  • A piece of material
  • A glue gun or fabric glue
  • Scissors
  • Elastic
  • Measuring tape

Instructions:

  • Take a piece of material and depending on who you are making it for roughly judge how big you want the bow tie to be. I cut a piece of material to be 19cm in length and 10cm wide. You will also need a smaller piece of material for the piece that wraps around the middle of the bow tie. This piece 8cm in length and 3cm wide

20170116_145910

  • Make some fold lines to follow. Fold the larger piece in half. Top to bottom and left to right. The material needs to be right side down.
  • Working lengthways. Place some glue along the middle of material to one side of the fold and fold the edge to the middle, pressing down on the glue. Repeat this with the top edge folding it to the middle and securing in place with glue.

wp-1484581491351.jpg

  • Now you need to fold the left and right edges into the middle of the fabric. Secure in place with the glue

wp-1484581491342.jpg

  • Keeping the fabric the wrong side up, fold the length ways in towards the middle again. Only place a little bit of glue in the middle to hold it down

wp-1484581491926.jpg

  • Turn the bow tie over so you have the front of it in front of you. Pinch in the middle and secure with a little glue

wp-1484581491899.jpg

Looking good eh!

  • Measure the neck of the person you are making the bow tie for and cut some elastic of that length. Glue the ends together and then glue on to the back of the bow tie

wp-1484581491377.jpg

  • Take the small piece of material that you cut out and fold the longer edges in to the middle and secure with the glue. Just like you did with the bow tie. Now wrap it around the middle of the bow tie starting at the back where the elastic is.

wp-1484581491362.jpg

Watch your fingers if you are using a glue gun as the glue becomes very hot!

You are now ready to wear your dicky bow

Doesn’t it look good? I am pretty chuffed with the outcome and I didn’t even have to get out a needle or the sewing machine.

Boys on trend with Howick – House of Fraser

My boys love their clothes and they don’t need an excuse to dress up in their best clothes. They are forever rummaging through their wardrobes searching for outfits to wear. Putting together new styles and always asking me if they look smart. They have their own styles which they have, over the past few years, put together by themselves. The middle boy will always be found wearing a Dickie Bow or a Trilby hat and the youngest likes to dress smart. Their bedroom floor has always got the odd item of clothing scattered across it from where they have got changed throughout the day.

I love that they have a passion for clothes, as I studied fashion when I was younger, It’s a nice feeling to know that even though I don’t have a girl to follow my passion for fashion the boys enjoy it too.

Just before Christmas the boys were sent a few items of clothing from House Of Fraser.

I chose a particular t shirt for my 9 year old. It is a Bike print crew neck top by Howick. He loves to wear unusual clothing, something that makes him look different from his friends.

The print is large and fun with bicycles, helmets and water bottles scattered around the T-Shirt. My son is an outdoors person and likes nothing more than to go out around the block on his bike. This T-shirt suits his personality to tee (excuse the pun)

20170103_153705

The material is 100% cotton leaving it feeling soft against the skin. It looks lovely teamed with a pair of jeans and a blazer over the top. It’s the ideal smart casual staple for any boys wardrobe. The T-shirt is a size 7-8 and it fitted my son perfectly. His height is 125cm.

What does the boy say “I like the bike T-shirt as it is very comfortable to wear and soft on my skin. I also like the print on it”

T-Shirt £12/ Current sale price £6 (Jan 2016)

From smart casual to special occasion smart. We was also sent a three piece classic suit in grey by Howick.

Now this has got to be the most adorable little outfit I have seen my youngest wear. He had me in tears when he wore it. I am hoping that we have an invite to a special occasion so that he gets to wear it again before he outgrows it

He was so proud of himself wearing it, he was beaming from ear to ear. And you have to admit, he looks pretty dapper in the tailored suit.

The quality of this suit is of high standard. The stitching is neatly done and the material is soft and comfy. The last thing you want is a child in a suit that is uncomfortable all day long,

20170103_155507

If your child has a slim waist then the trousers are ideal, as they have an adjustable waist line that can be tightened by pulling the elastic on to the button

20170103_155305

There are two usable pockets on the back of the trousers and are finished off with a pressed central crease down the front of the leg giving the overall look of the suit a polished look.

20161226_133124

Along with the trousers and jacket there was also a waistcoat. 20161226_133113

The silk lining follows throughout all three items. You will find this suit has all the design features you would want from a smart suit for any age.

  • Inside pockets on the jacket
  • Button hole on lapel
  • Box vent on the back of the jacket
  • Lined and stitched to a high standard

20170103_155139

  • Buttons on the jacket cuffs20170103_155414
  • Metal clasp trousers, easy to use for young children
  • Adjustable elastic waist
  • Detailed belt on the back of the waistcoat

20170103_154611

  • Buttons of reasonable size for little hands to grasp

20170103_154639

The suit is not sold as a three-piece, each item is sold separately.

Both items are of good quality as you would expect from a high end department store. In my opinion they are lovely staple items for any stylish boys wardrobe.

Jacket £46  Trousers £26  Waistcoat £24 Current prices as of Jan 2016 Take a look at some of the boys clothes that House of Fraser have to offer here

We was sent these items for the purpose of this review, photos and opinions are of our own.

My Trendy little Crombie boy

I have a passion for clothes but don’t often get time to wear lovely outfits as i spend all my time at work or indoors with my boys, so I am over the moon that my passion has been passed on down to my children especially Joseph. He is 7 years old and loves to dress up, his favourite item of clothes to wear are bow ties and trilby hats. He has the most amazing pair of silver trousers that he adores but he is growing out of them and we are currently on the look out for a new pair.

I recently bought the boys some new winter coats, although Joseph is a boy and 7 years old he loves to choose his own clothes. He’s not keen on tops with logos, he likes patterned material and he prefers to wear clothes that are that little bit different to his friends. We looked on River Island’s website and he immediately was drawn to a Boys grey wool texture crombie coat, costing £45 I thought it was a good price to pay for a coat.

Joseph definitely has an eye for trendy clothes. The coat has leather detailed trim around the collar and on the pockets and a skull and cross bone lining, making it really appealing to the younger children.

Once the coat arrived I was a little disheartened as it wasn’t as thick as i thought it would be, but that didn’t affect Joseph’s love for it. He put it on straight away and walked around the living room putting on a fashion show for us.

I must say he looks rather dapper in it!

Joseph’s teamed up his coat with a Trilby hat, both bought from H&M.

The coat is three-quarter length single breasted, done up with three buttons. It has 2 flapped hip pockets and a centre vent in the back. It’s soft wool makes it comfortable to wear.

I think Joseph looks über cool in his coat and I myself absolutely adore it too!

What do you think?

Joe Browns Review and £50 Voucher Giveaway

As the weather has been getting warmer and summer is nearing I have been on the look out for some lovely cool summer dresses that I can wear for the school run and for work, as I work in a school they obviously need to appropriate wear….not too short, no bare shoulders and a big thing is comfort.

Joe Browns have gorgeous unusual clothes and a huge selection of different types of dresses to suit all, most of them have big and bold prints on them, some are cute little summer dresses to suit daytime or evening. I’m not really a print type of girl but I definitely don’t like boring, as I was scanning through the dress page on their webpage I found the perfect dress for me, the Luscious Linen costing £39.95

LD549 - Luscious Linen Dress - Luscious Linen Dress, Dresses, Women's Outlet, Clothing, Accessories, Joe Browns

With a loose fitting style it was perfect for my job at school, it looked cool and with the embroidery at the front, very cute.

I quickly ordered the dress and within a couple of days it had arrived, wrapped in tissue paper i ripped it open and couldn’t wait to try it on. I had ordered a size 8, my size ranges from 6-8, I have a 26.5″ waist and a 30″ bust, I normally find it hard buying clothes that fit me perfectly. The dress was very loose and didn’t flatter ma at all, with my skinny frame it just hung on me, I made a big mistake when ordering the dress as I didn’t look at the measurements in the description. It looked really cute on the model but then again she probably wasn’t short with no bust! lol

I took the dress in at the sides from under the arm down the the hem, by about an inch either side and found that it was an ideal loose fit now.

The material is soft making the dress very comfortable and with the loose fitting it is ideal for those hot sticky days.

20140708-062526.jpg

I absolutely adore the detail at the front of the dress, the embroidered lace yolk and the cute little wooden buttons (which are just for the design and not usable) The dress is beautifully made and the little added embroidered lace around the bottom of the dress makes it just that extra special. The yolk on the top back of the dress has some pin tucks in it which gives it extra gathering when the belt is tied.

20140708-062544.jpgEven with the little belt tied up it still feels very loose and has lots of movement in it

20140708-062535.jpg

I teamed the dress up with a pair of golden jellies and a 3/4 sleeve lace cardigan for work and not once did i feel restricted whilst working, not only does it look comfortable it IS comfortable to wear. The length is perfect as it reaches just at knee level (i’m 3′ 4″) especially if your a very active person, It’s ideal clothing for my work as I am up an down on the carpet, running around with children and bending down at tables.

I was asked to choose an outfit to review but have also been given a £50 voucher to give away to one of my lucky follower/readers. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning the voucher to spend on line at Joe Browns then follow all of the options on the rafflecopter form below.

My Trendy Matalan Toddler

My boys love there clothes and like to choose their own outfits, sometimes changing their clothes more than once in a day to choose their mood and it looks like the youngest one has his own mind in what clothes he wants to wear too. Oliver is 27 months old and has a very big personality, he loves to choose what shoes to wear every day and he even tells me what coat he wants to put on.

A couple of weeks ago we was invited along to a Matalan Movie Club event in London where the children had their very own private screening in a small cinema of Finding Nemo, once the film was over the adults got to mingle with each other and chat over looking at a rail of selected ladies and childrens clothes. The boys tried on a few outfits and Jak fell in love with a particular jacket which had an aztec design on it

20131111-183751.jpg

Oliver was given by the PR a green coat, it has to be the softest children coat i have ever felt. The inside of the coat is lined with cream soft fluffy fur, the hood has a fake fur trim and is lined with a cotton tartan material.

20131111-183834.jpg

20131111-183802.jpg

The coat makes Oliver look lovely and cuddly and even more important it keeps him as warm as toast. As the material is soft it doesn’t restrict Oliver’s movement so he can still run around at the park and have lots of fun in the winter months but still keep warm.

As the days are getting colder, what are your children’s favourite coats?

Trendy L’asticot Toddler

Whilst recently scrolling through my home page on Instagram I came across some pictures of gorgeous items of childrens clothing that Jenny from Kyna Boutique had uploaded. She was sharing with us some new stock from L’asticot and I knew the moment that I saw them I just had to have them for Oliver.

20130305-220526.jpg

One of the items was a L’asticot bodysuit with a penny farthing print on it and a yellow trim on the neck and legs. With spring on its way, yellow is the ideal colour to be buying and after the dreary long winter we have had this bodysuit was certainly going to be brightening up my little Oliver’s day.

I ordered the items and within no time at all they had arrived, they was beautifully wrapped in cream paper and tied together with a black satin ribbon, I instantly knew that I would be happy with my purchase. As soon as I got my hands on the clothes I knew that I had bought some quality clothes, they felt soft like velvet. The material was thick and stretchy but not that stretchy that it would lose its shape.

20130305-220447.jpg

I couldn’t wait to try it on him and was pleasantly surprised to see that the bodysuit had a double position poppers which is a fabulous idea as the item gets to grow with your child resulting in it lasting longer.

20130305-220506.jpgThe body suit oozes excellence and is made from a superior quality of material with a stunning print of bikes on it.

As daddy is a keen cyclist and spends a majority of his time out on his racer I thought this would be lovely to show daddy how much Oliver supports daddy when he is competing in races.20130305-220517.jpg

I can’t wait until the weather warms up a bit and I get to show Oliver off wearing it, What do you think of it?

The body suit cost me £20 but worth every penny as it will double up as a t-shirt in the summer and with the extra poppers it will last longer too. If you like the look of this bodysuit, pop on over to Kyna Boutique and check out the rest of L’asticot new seasons stock.
