Tea for Two – Afternoon Tea at Whittard of Chelsea, London

Living at home with very busy boys it can be hard to find the time to spend quality time with each one of them. The boys are normally, either, running or playing football and myself or Dad spend our weekends ferrying them around from one place to the next.

Last weekend we were invited out by Whittard of Chelsea to attend an Afternoon Tea for two at there Tea Bar in Covent Garden. I took this as the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with my middle boy.

Whittard of Chelsea Tea Bar is an extension of the Whittard of Chelsea Covent Garden store.

Situated in the middle of Covent Garden Piazza, downstairs within the flagship store you will find more than your average tea and coffee shop. The Tea Bar features a specialist bar that serves a menu of full afternoon tea alongside 100 loose leaf teas with delicious cakes and savouries to compliment their astonishing tea menu.

Whittard Tea Bar also serves a selection of alcoholic drinks, tea infused cocktails, sandwiches, hot chocolates, coffee and all day afternoon tea.

As we arrived we were immediately greeted by the lovely friendly staff, who made us feel very comfortable throughout our visit. The Tea bar is rather small inside and you get that cosy feeling from the rather relaxed atmosphere.

We were shown to our table and offered the menu. Oh my! I had never seen so many choices of different types of tea that was on offer. They had a pretty extensive list of teas available and we had no idea what to choose. Luckily, our host, Marta, was there to offer some advice on what to try. After telling her what tea we normally drink she recommended the Jade Formosa Oolong for my son and the Matcha Guricha for me. Marta also offered us her plethora of knowledge on tea; Oolong tea is a traditional chinese tea that the leaves are wrapped into small beads and can be brewed multiple times.

Tea Menu

We were served our tea and given 3 timers; 3, 4 and 5 minutes. We were advised to give our tea between 3 – 4 minutes to infuse.

Infusion

The tea was every bit of what you would expect from Whittard, it lived up to its expectation. Full bodied with a herbal richness.

The Whittard Tea

We ordered our afternoon tea and opted for The Whittard Tea which is their signature spread of sandwiches, scones, cakes and tea for an afternoon of champions.

As we waited for food to arrive we sat and sipped our delightful tea and chatted about school and work. It was lovely to spend time with my son in such a charming and relaxed surroundings. Sitting in the tea rooms you wouldn’t think that just beyond the window was the busy hustle and bustle of London.

It wasn’t long before our host was heading our way our afternoon tea.

The Whittard Tea

I was also served up a glass of pink prosecco that was infused with strawberry and mint. I must say, I don’t normally drink but this was very refreshing and smooth. A very summer taste. I certainly could have had more than one glass of this fine drink.

The Whittard Tea consisted of selection of handmade finger sandwiches – smoked salmon with lemon cheese; coronation chicken; cucumber; egg and cress Scones. Scones with clotted cream and tea-infused strawberry and mango preserves and a choice of five bitesize cakes.

The hardest choice was what to put on first on the scone; jam or cream?

The presentation was beautiful as was the taste. Freshly prepared food, with delicate flavours that sent my taste buds into overdrive. A sensational selection of excellent food to indulge in. A perfect british tea time experience.

Outstanding service, delicious food and a fantastic variety of drinks including vast tea choices Whittards Tea Bar is definitely a place to visit and a quintessential location to book for a Mother’s day treat.

Not only can you book for afternoon tea you can also browse round the shop and buy some amazing gifts that they have on offer. I would definitely recommend the Easter Tea; a treat that is better than eggs. A nutty oolong tea with subtle hints of chocolate and buttercream, finished off with a scattering of sugar bunnies. Not only is it palatable but it also smells amazing.

Whittard Afternoon Tea £30 per person

Glass of prosecco £6

Tea ranging from £3.50 -£5.00

Give Mum Something Special With This Paper Flower Mother’s Day Card

When I was a child every Mother’s day I would always make a card for my Mum, I knew that she cherished these cards a little bit more as she knew that time had been spent on them. In fact my Mum still has them stored away in a tin in a cupboard and we sometimes look at them together, I even showed my children them once and they loved looking at them.

This is something that I have encouraged my children to do too. I love that schools make cards with the children when it comes to a special occasion but I also like that they use their own initiative at home to do them too.

I have always made sure that the boys have the crafts so that they can create whatever they want without having to ask me for help. They have a drawer unit that is full of equipment that they call their Mr Maker Unit.

I know that it takes time to make cards at home and some people do struggle with doing crafts so I do actually like to use Moonpig to make them too, this is an online store that you can customise with your own words and give them a personal touch with added photos and names. These cards are also for keeps. My mum made me my 40th birthday card with them and I still have it up on my side, it shows pictures of me throughout the years.

Anyway, back to the Paper Flower card

The flowers do take some time and can get quite fiddly so if making with children i suggest making the flowers bigger.

You will need:

  • Coloured card
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • And time.

Method:

  • Cut your chosen coloured card into 8cm squares (go bigger if you want bigger flowers)
  • Fold in half from corner to corner to create a triangle, aligning up the edges
  • Fold in half again to create another triangle, aligning up the edges
  • Open back up and fold the corner up along the centre fold line. Do this for both sides
  • Open back up and fold  the corner up to the fold that you just created. Do this for both sides
  • Open back up and you want to push up along the bottom edge of the triangle so that you create a diamond shape by folding it on the second fold

  • Then fold over the over hang from the diamond so that you have a clean straight edge. Do this on both sides
  • Fold up the bottom along the first crease on both sides
  • Then fold in half and glue down the sides
  • So now you should have created your petal. Once the glue has dried, press around the edge to open it up

I have created a video below of how to make a petal. In case my instructions are not easy to follow

Once you have at  least 8 petals you need to glue them all together to form the flower

I made 8 petals as mine were quite small but if you are making bigger petals then you may not need as many.

I made three flowers from different colours and then placed them on the front of a card. Once placed into position I then glued them down with a glue gun. I made the vase from a piece of paper but you can also draw this onto the front of the card.

I stuck it down creating a 3D effect.

You now have a 3D flower card ready to give to Mum on Mother’s Day

Thankful for being a Mother

Last weekend was Mothering Sunday

A day where children shower there Mummy’s with Love, presents, cards and time

A day where Mums from all over get to have a day off and spend it with their Children.

A day when children tell their Mums how much they love them and how much they are thankful for them being their mummy

I didn’t receive a shop bought card, or any flowers or a gift for that matter. But what I did get was far more rewarding and priceless. A day with my boys.

I don’t need a card to tell me how much they love me

I don’t need flowers or gifts to know that they love me

I receive kisses and cuddles every day from them, so this day was no exception

Instead we walked along hand in hand on a beach.

We talked and laughed at each others jokes

We ate chips on the sea front whilst the sun shone down on us

We watched the waves hit the shore

We enjoyed each others company

I sat and watched my boys play together, kick a football around and play fight with each other

I should be thanking them for making me the person I am today

I wouldn’t be a Mum without them. Without them I wouldn’t be me!

I am thankful on Mothers Day, as of the rest of the days of the year in being their Mum

My day couldn’t have been any better. I wasn’t upset that I didn’t receive gifts, as I’ve got my boys instead. They showered me with cuddles and kisses. They gave me laughter and fun and most of all they gave me memories of a lovely day together.

I celebrate every day the love I have for them and I know that they love me just as much as I do them.

I only have to hold them to feel their loving touch. Look into their eyes to see the love.

I am thankful for being their Mum every day that I breathe and nothing can take that away from me

Mothers Day Crafts with Yellow Moon

Mother’s Day is nearly on top of us and if you are thinking about what crafts the children can do at home, take a look at the following 5 products that Yellow Moon have to offer.

There is nothing better than receiving a home-made gift from my boys on Mothers Day. Mostly they are cards that they have made at school or something that they have put together in the corner of their bedroom on the said day.

Yellow Moon is an online arts and crafts store that supplies children’s craft sets and party bag fillers. They have a wide range of arts and crafts for every occasion all you have to do is add a little imagination to create a master piece.

Mothers Day Sand and Glitter Art Picture Sheets £2.40 Pack of 6

yellow glitter The pack comes with 6 assorted designs, each sheet measures 19 x 12cm. Everything is a sticker, peel away what you would like to add some glitter or colourful sand to and design away. Why not mix it up a bit by adding in some more colour with some felt tip pens, colour in what you haven’t added some glitter to. These cute little cards will add sparkle to any Mummy’s morning.

Mother’s Day Rosette Badge £3.49 Pack of 6

yellow rosette

Show your Mum that she is a star and your number 1 by presenting her with a badge that she could proudly wear all day, knowing that her precious little ones had made it with love for her. There are 3 assorted designs in the kit, each kit contains a rosette template, sequins, self adhesive foam pieces and a badge pin. The instruction sheet, as always, is easy to follow with pictures showing each step which makes it clear for young children to do. My boys really enjoyed this activity and have stored away their creations ready to give to me on Mother’s day morning.

Wooden Jewellery Hands £2.40 Pack of 2

yellow hand

Decorate these wooden hand shapes with Deco pens, glitter and sequins and use to display your jewellery on. Each kit comes with the wooden hand shape and a wooden base that just slots into each other, no glue is needed. My son chose to paint the hand  red with acrylic paint, then once dried he decorated it with buttons and glitter glue. It looks good on my bedside cabinet and I would be very happy to receive this as a gift. My rings are very small so they don’t fit all the way down, but they still fit on. You can hang your necklaces and bracelets on it too. These are ideal gifts for any female out there not just your Mum.

Butterfly Cushion Sewing Kits  £4.50 pack of 2

yellow butterfly

The kit comes in 2 assorted butterfly designs, cushion size 20cm wide. Each kit contains pre punched felt templates, self adhesive felt shapes, yarn, plastic needle, stuffing and stuffing. I absolutely adore these sewing kits for children, it is such a fun way to introduce sewing to them. They are perfect for their fine motor skills and also their concentration. My boys struggled a little as the yarn was very long and they kept getting all caught up in it and tangling it all up. Mummy did have to help them out a little. I love the final product and the butterflies are now sitting proudly on the boys bed ready for them to cuddle into at night-time.

Flower Craft Box £2.99 pack of 4

yellow box

These little craft boxes are a favourite of my own. I had the chance to get out my decopatch paper and  glue and decorate away. Each flower box measures 7cm diameter, so ideal for those little trinkets, pins, pennies or craft materials. I could just see it being a fabulous way to present a little gift in. They can be decorated with pens, paints and sequins.  I found this paper in a craft shop recently and have been waiting for something to decorate with it. I adore my little box and I am going to store my safety pins in at work.

If you like the loom of someof these crafts why not head on over to the website to see what else they have to offer. Fabulous prices and some great crafts sets.

I was supplied with these products for the purpose of this review. Mumofthreemusketeers are a part of yellowmoon bloggers.

DIY Mothers Day Gift

I love to make my own gifts for my mum and Mother’s Day is the perfect time to do so!

Ever since I was a little girl I can always remember making my own cards and gifts which was probably made out of scrap pieces of paper but whatever they were my mummy loved them! She always found a special place to exhibit my creations, on the fire surround or on the kitchen side where everyone would see them.

My mum loves to receive home made cards or gifts as she says they have that special touch and are more thoughtful!

I think Jak takes after me as he is always making me things, last year I received a purse made out of paper and a card in the shape of a mug with a T-Bag in it. This year he tells me that he is going to make me a cake and I can’t wait as he is turning out to be quite a little sous chef and I am sure it will be very tasty.

I posted out earlier in the week an DIY hanging wooden heart decoration that I have made for my mum, well today I added to her gifts and made another hanging creation.

I bought the wooden weaved heart from Morrisons for £2 and the yellow foam flowers are from Hobbycraft (can’t remember how much, probably £3).
The flowers come with wire attached to them so it easy to twine them around things to attach them.

A really simple DIY gift, cheap but I think really effective.

I just hope mummy likes it 🙂
