Me and my sofa!

We all have our favourite items in our homes, some people love an item in their kitchen and some prefer a picture that hangs pride of place in their living room, whatever it is from framed photographs to a cooker, there is always something within your household that makes you smile, something that we are proud of os something that holds a special place in our hearts. Well with me it’s my sofa, not both of them as we have a 3 and a 2 seater but the smallest one makes me feel all warm with love when i look at it. We bought our sofa 5 years ago now, just before I gave birth to my four year old Joseph, We both fell in love with the style of the sofa when we saw it in the shop, as our house is only small we took down the measurements and did some adjusting in the front room and we managed to come to the conclusion that with a bit of squashing and squeezing the suite would fit into the room. The sofas are nice and big with lots of cushions on and long enough to lay down and have a little snooze on. It’s really comfortable and very relaxing, plus we can fit our whole family onto the biggest of the two, but this isn’t the reason why i love my sofa.

I love my sofa because it is where me youngest Oliver first made his appearance, Yes, It’s where i gave birth to him. I didn’t tend on giving birth on the sofa my idea was to have him in the squatting position on the living room floor (which was covered by the way) but due to having really low iron during my pregnancy i was too weak on my legs and they was becoming very shaky so at the last minute in my labour i made my way to the 2 seater sofa to take a rest but then the labour pains increased and became stronger and Oliver wasn’t going to wait for me to move and this is where he was born. There was me laying on the sofa, midwife at the bottom ready to catch my baby and wrap him up and the Other Half helping me to lean forward so it was easier for me to push, so he was laying on top of the cushions that are at the back. Oliver was born weighing 6lb 10oz, very healthy at 10:11 in the morning. The boys were at school, so once Myself and Oliver was checked over and wrapped up we lay on the sofa together cuddling away and this is where we stayed until the boys came home from school. Joseph was only in school for half a day as he was in nursery, could you imagine his little face when he came into the room and saw that his mummy was holding a little baby. He beamed the biggest beam i had ever seen a little 4 year old give, he came over and gave his little brother a kiss then ran off to his bedroom, I thought he was upset but he came back a couple of seconds later with his blanket and gave it to me saying that it was now for his little brother to use.

So you see, that is why i love my sofa. I’m not sure I would ever be able to replace it as it holds such lovely memories for me. Not only is it a comfortable seat but it’s sentimental to us all, It’s where my baby first opened his eyes, it’s where he entered into this world, it’s where i had my first cuddle with my gorgeous newborn, It’s where all three of my boys sat together for the first time, It’s where i fed my baby and it’s where my little baby took his first steps from and where he sleeps now.
