Phantom Boy DVD Review and Giveaway

Phantom Boy is a highly anticipated new film from the Academy Award-nominated writers and directors of A Cat In Paris is a stylish noir caper, set in the shadowy streets and alleyways of New York.

A touching story of an 11 year old boy, Leo who discovers he has a special power that he uses to help lieutenant Tanner fight a very dangerous villain,The Face.

Leo has a secret. A mysterious illness has transformed into a phantom boy, able to leave his body and explore the city as a ghostly apparition. While Leo is in hospital, he befriends Alex Tanner, a New York cop who got injured whilst attempting to capture a nefarious gangster who has taken control of the city’s power supply, throwing the metropolis into chaos. The pair unite and form an extraordinary duo, using Leo’s phantom powers and Alex’s detective work to foil the plot and save New York from destruction.

Alex and Leo are both in hospital both different reasons. Leo is in for treatment for hos illness and Alex is in a wheelchair with a broken leg, hurt from attempting to capture The Face. Leo is able to become invisible and fly through walls, his body stays still whilst he has an outer body experience. Leo is a big fan of the Police and couldn’t wait to introduce himself to Alex and help him save Mary, a journalist, who falls prey to The Face when she goes in search of him. With Leo in the air and Alex on the ground they become quite the fighting pair. They have 24 hours to save the City from a deadly computer virus.

20170206_114947

The film is very touching, portraying Leo as a brave young man. It is an action packed, simply animated and a heart warming film.

It has its humourous moments from the villains trusty side kicks and vicious tiny dog, Rufus. The film shows us about the power of teamwork, friendship, family, and courageous acts of kindness. Leo’s illness pulls at the heart-strings yet The Face and his gang bring humour to the film.

My children aged 14, 9 and 5 all enjoyed watching this simple animated fantasy film and found it to be entertaining. They were engaged the whole way through. Leo spends a lot of time in his hospital bed due to his illness and gets the freedom that he yearns by becoming phantom boy. He feels free from the disease by soaring up high in the sky over buildings and flying through walls.

Phantom boy is a beautiful story but also a brilliant superhero film and will leave you feeling warm inside.

In a Galaxy Far, Far away….

Egmont Publishers brings to you a selection of Starwars books for young readers to enjoy. We was sent a selection of books to share with our readers in time for World Book Day

StarWars Where’s Wookie  A hardback search and find activity book. Can you find the loveable furry animal in the many colourful packed scenes throughout the book? Chewbacca is wanted for crimes against the Empire, despite his towering height and distinctive smell, he is an expert at evading capture. The hunt is on!

The boys loved this book, it kept them entertained for ages. Not only did they search through the very detailed pictures for wookie but there is also a galactic checklist at the end of the book to make the search a little harder. The first on the check list was to find the Jawa feeding the birds, which we found pretty quickly, but they do get harder.

Starwars Rebellion Tin  Open the lid to discover:

•The Rebellion Doodle Book – sketch, colour and recreate your favourite Star Wars characters

•The Rebels to the Rescue Activity Book– packed with puzzles, word games, fun trivia and more!

•A New Hope story book – a captivating retelling of Episode IV by Ryder Windham and illustrated by Brian Rood.

And as if this wasn’t enough you can press out pieces to build your very own Millennium Falcon!

Suitable for all Star Wars fans aged 7 and up.

The Millenium Falcon took us about 10 minutes to build, the instructions found in the back of the Activity book are easy to follow. Each cut out piece has been labeled with letters and are easy to push out of the foam card. Each piece is connected together by precut slots.

This tin is definitely worth the money and will keep the children/adults busy for hours. Possibly the ideal git for a child that is travelling, all activities kept safe in the tin.

Starwars Adventure in Wild Space is a junior book series that is published by Egmont Publishing. The series follows the Graf siblings Lina and Milo as they go in search of their parents who were captured by the evil Galactic Empire.

The Escape has been specially written and published for World Book Day 2016. When the parents of Milo and Lina are abducted by the Stormtroopers, the children take a perilous journey across the unknown reaches of wild Space to rescue them.

It is one of the ten books that you can choose from using your World Book day Token given to your children from their school. World book day takes place on 3rd March, most schools and childcare settings take part in the children dressing up as their favourite book character.

We took on the challenge from Egmont Publishing to create a Star Wars themed costume for World Book Day. It was quite last-minute with items of clothing that we raided the wardrobes for, particularly looking for neutral colours. We found an old cardigan in my wardrobe, an old pair of trousers that once belong to the eldest boy, a belt that belongs to Daddy and mummy’s old Ugg boots. With a few snips here and there and a little imagination we came up with this outfit

star fancy

What do you think? Can you guess what he is?

He had fun dressing up in costume, in fact I couldn’t get him out of it! He spent all day dressed in character running around the house with a foam sword going on an adventure across the galaxy.

star darth

My son, read through the Adventures in Wild Space: The Escape and really enjoyed it. There were just enough black and white illustrations to help him create the scene in his head, the story was thrilling and full of adventure. He was gripped after the first chapter and didn’t put it down until he had finished it. His favourite character is CR-8R, the family prim droid created by their Mum. Made from a mash-up of different droid models. Although he had the Graf siblings best interest at heart it didn’t make him less annoying.

The books are full of danger, excitement and adventure and are aimed at children aged 7-11. Each contains black and white illustrations and the text is fairly big making it easier to follow.

Starwars Adventures in Wild Space will be a series of 5 books, the first three available to buy from Amazon.

The Escape £1.00 or available for free with your world book day token

The Snare £5.24 In this first full-length adventure, Milo and Lina look for allies on an ancient frontier world – but the cruel Imperial officer Captain Korda has prepared a trap…Released on 25th February 2016

Star Wars Xmas Books Review Giveaway

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away….

Are you a big Star Wars fan?

Do I have something special for you! And just in time for Christmas too

IMG_20151126_114447 (1)_optWe was recently sent a selection of Star Wars books to share and giveaway to you.

Join Luke  Skywalker on his epic adventures in Star Wars Treasury: The Original Trilogy. It is hardback book based on the stories by George Lucas, A new Hope, The empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. The book tells you the basic story line keeping in the fun and exciting parts, with over 100 full colour paintings by Brian Rood, that keeps you entertained and wanting to read more. Brian Rood is a professional illustrator who works in the entertainment, comic and commercial art fields. Not only does he create new art work for Star Wars, but also for Marvel comics, Paramount pictures and Hollywood stars. The illustrations in the book are gorgeous works of watercolour art that we found captivating and charming.  The book doesn’t have many words but has pictures on every page keeping it engaging for the younger readers.

DSC_2877 (1)_opt

The Star Wars young readers books are ideal for younger children learning to read. They come in three levels, corresponding to the colour book band that they use in schools. These books are exciting and are set out with few words and lots of dramatic colourful illustrations. If your child is interested in Star Wars then these books can encourage reluctant readers to become independent readers. They are ideal action books for new readers.

Escape from Darth Vader is a young readers level 1, which is equal to a yellow book band. Level 1 are simple stories for new and developing readers. Based on the events from A new hope . Meet two different robots R2-D2 and C3P0 who attempt to escape from the mean and scary Darth Vader and his Troopers. Princess Leia is caught, but before It happens she gives something special to R2-D2, something that Darth Vader is after, the secret battle Plans!

Use the Force is a young readers level 2 book, which is equal to a blue book band. Level 2 books are engaging stories for readers growing in confidence and independence. Join Jedi Master Yoda as he teaches Luke how to use the force. The Force is a special energy field that can be used for good or evil. Luke trains hard but he needs to believe in himself before he can move on. Will he be able to use the Force to save his friends and become the greatest Jedi of all!

The Young Reader Star Wars books are challenging for new readers, with interesting action stories and beautiful illustrations they are perfect for any child to enjoy. As the levels go up there are more words to a page.

The Star Wars Starfighter Workshop book is part activity and part construction. That’s right you get to build your very own X-Wing and tie fighter to play with and display in your home. There is nothing more, that my boys like, than becoming creative and building items that they can play with. The activity book is full of puzzles and mazes, lots of exciting activities for the children to do. The construction part if the fun part of the book! Not only do you get to build an X-Wing but you also get to build a Tie Fighter too! There are 10 pieces of foam, each with pre-cut shape pieces that can be easily pushed out. The instructions are inside the activity book and are easy to follow. We got a little lost at some points as we got a little confused with what part was what, so we looked at the pictures on the instructions and they helped us. Slotting the pieces together can get a little fiddly, but a little perseverance saw us creating our very own space crafts to play with. The recommended age for this workshop is 7, which I totally agree as it does get fiddly and the instructions can get a little hard to follow especially when connecting the pieces together (although if younger and under adult supervision I think it would be fine)

Watch the video below for the full review of the Star Wars Starfighter Workshop

The boys played with the Starfighter for a long time and eventually they started to come apart and loose so we just reinforced them together with some super glue.

A great activity for adults and children to do together, with a fabulous outcome.

All of the book are available to buy from Amazon.

Joe Browns Review and £50 Voucher Giveaway

As the weather has been getting warmer and summer is nearing I have been on the look out for some lovely cool summer dresses that I can wear for the school run and for work, as I work in a school they obviously need to appropriate wear….not too short, no bare shoulders and a big thing is comfort.

Joe Browns have gorgeous unusual clothes and a huge selection of different types of dresses to suit all, most of them have big and bold prints on them, some are cute little summer dresses to suit daytime or evening. I’m not really a print type of girl but I definitely don’t like boring, as I was scanning through the dress page on their webpage I found the perfect dress for me, the Luscious Linen costing £39.95

LD549 - Luscious Linen Dress - Luscious Linen Dress, Dresses, Women's Outlet, Clothing, Accessories, Joe Browns

With a loose fitting style it was perfect for my job at school, it looked cool and with the embroidery at the front, very cute.

I quickly ordered the dress and within a couple of days it had arrived, wrapped in tissue paper i ripped it open and couldn’t wait to try it on. I had ordered a size 8, my size ranges from 6-8, I have a 26.5″ waist and a 30″ bust, I normally find it hard buying clothes that fit me perfectly. The dress was very loose and didn’t flatter ma at all, with my skinny frame it just hung on me, I made a big mistake when ordering the dress as I didn’t look at the measurements in the description. It looked really cute on the model but then again she probably wasn’t short with no bust! lol

I took the dress in at the sides from under the arm down the the hem, by about an inch either side and found that it was an ideal loose fit now.

The material is soft making the dress very comfortable and with the loose fitting it is ideal for those hot sticky days.

20140708-062526.jpg

I absolutely adore the detail at the front of the dress, the embroidered lace yolk and the cute little wooden buttons (which are just for the design and not usable) The dress is beautifully made and the little added embroidered lace around the bottom of the dress makes it just that extra special. The yolk on the top back of the dress has some pin tucks in it which gives it extra gathering when the belt is tied.

20140708-062544.jpgEven with the little belt tied up it still feels very loose and has lots of movement in it

20140708-062535.jpg

I teamed the dress up with a pair of golden jellies and a 3/4 sleeve lace cardigan for work and not once did i feel restricted whilst working, not only does it look comfortable it IS comfortable to wear. The length is perfect as it reaches just at knee level (i’m 3′ 4″) especially if your a very active person, It’s ideal clothing for my work as I am up an down on the carpet, running around with children and bending down at tables.

I was asked to choose an outfit to review but have also been given a £50 voucher to give away to one of my lucky follower/readers. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning the voucher to spend on line at Joe Browns then follow all of the options on the rafflecopter form below.
